We have unique insurance needs in Alberta due to the extreme weather. Temperatures of plus 30 to minus 30 and beyond can wreck havoc on us, our property, and our vehicles if we’re not prepared for it.
Leo Insurance provide home insurance coverage for condominiums and apartment rentals throughout Alberta, from the depths of Lethbridge, up to Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, Fort McMurray and beyond.
We’ve been established in Alberta for many years and we handle a lot of claims each year. We understand how ice can damage your building. If you’re going away for a few days during the winter months it is extremely important to shut off and drain the water pipes – if you don’t know how to, try asking your landlord or the condominium board for help.
Here are a few other tips to help prevent freezing water pipes:
- Never turn the thermostat completely off.
- It’s best not to turn the thermostat below 17 degrees when it’s cold out. This forces water to flow through the pipes to keep your unit heated, which in turn prevents the water from standing still and potentially freezing.
- Don’t prop open the outside doors; pipes that are close to the door could freeze.
- Don’t leave a window open for too long. Cold air sinks and over a period of time can freeze floor level pipes.
We’ve partnered with Intact Insurance for our condo and tenant insurance policies. Intact’s the largest provider of home insurance in Canada and they’ve been established in Alberta for decades. They too understand how to respond to your situation and ensure that you’re looked after.
